4 ways to use LED lighting to promote retail business
2019-08-23

Designing a retail space doesn't just involve choosing a product layout. Not everyone can implement all the components into a well-designed space. For example, lighting is one of the most important details in the retail space and can have a huge impact on the business. In fact, with proper lighting, you can increase your revenue by increasing sales and reducing costs. There are four key elements to implementing lighting: setting the right atmosphere for your space, guiding customers through your store, highlighting your product choices, and cutting costs associated with lighting maintenance and energy billing.

1. Create a more welcoming environment for customers to relax

A more common criticism of LED lighting is that it may be "cold", more specifically light having a higher color temperature or CCT. The problem is that "cool lighting" often causes irritation when used in industrial and unwelcome harsh spaces, which can create a false atmosphere in your store. Therefore, choosing a part of the correct illumination is to choose the right color temperature. If you want your space to look bigger, then cool white light is great, but if you want to create a more intimate and welcoming atmosphere, choose warm lighting (lower CCT). This usually encourages buyers to stay longer and come back again.

Another way to set the right mood through lighting is to choose a fixture that replenishes the space.

There are many fixtures to choose from depending on your store and the mood you want to achieve. Some of these options include:

*Built-in lighting produces soft, consistent light and reduces glare.

*Suspended high-bay lighting can help bring large and high ceiling spaces closer together, while also offering a variety of light distribution options.

*Surface mount lighting can be used anywhere, as it can be attached to walls and other surfaces to provide low profile options in a variety of spaces.

2. Encourage customers to lead them through lighting to spend more time in your store

Lighting can also drive sales because, from a strategic point of view, it can attract customers to different areas of the store they would have overlooked. For example, if you have a long and narrow space, customers often spend time in front of the store and rarely put it behind. With proper lighting, such as ambient lighting and high-activity lighting, your entire store will be properly illuminated and black spots removed. This usually encourages customers to explore the entire space. Similarly, you can use the backlight on the shelf to attract stores and direct customers to different areas.

3. Use lighting to attract customers’ attention and highlight your products

Strategic lighting is also great for attracting attention, and accent lighting is ideal for creating contrast while highlighting specific products. In particular, you may want to focus on selling items, new versions, or special items that you want to show. Accent lighting can also provide better illumination for products, helping customers to see important details more clearly. Finally, high-contrast lighting works well in display windows and attracts the attention of passers-by and attracts more customers into your store. However, it is important to use high CRI (Color Rendering Index) illumination that will accurately display the true color of the product and make them look the best.

4. LED lighting can also increase your bottom line by reducing energy and maintenance costs

Switching to LED lighting not only boosts sales, it also helps you save money by reducing costs. Energy costs are one of the top expenses for retailers, and because of the much lower operating costs of LED lights, they can significantly reduce energy costs by 75%. Similarly, the maintenance cost of LED lights is very low, in fact you can significantly reduce annual maintenance costs by switching.
